What Every Teen Should Know about College, Careers & Money
Let’s be real
Being a teenager is already a loooot….
You are trying to keep your grades up, maintain friendships, figure out who you are, deal with expectations at home, participate in activities, maybe work a job, and somehow still have a life
Then adults start asking:
“what do you want to be?””
“Where are you going to college?”
“What are you majoring in?”
“Have you applied for scholarship?”
And you are sitting there thinking: Can I finish this homework first?
Here is the good news”
You do not have to have your entire life figured out at 15, 16, 17, or even at 18.
But you can avoid the “sit still paralysis syndrome” – Instead of doing nothing, start figuring things out, prepare and plan….
1.Your GPA Is Basically Your Academic Credit Score
Okay, not literally.
But think about the comparison.
Your credit history can affect financial opportunities later in life.
Your academic history can affect educational opportunities now.
Your GPA may influence:
- College admissions
- Scholarships
- Honors programs
- Competitive academic programs
- Internship opportunities
- Eligibility for certain activities or awards
In a nutshell= A strong GPA can give you options…And options are valuable
Does that mean you have to be a perfect student? NO
A “B” is not the end of your future
A bad semester isn’t the end of your future either.
But if you are struggling, pay attention before one difficult week becomes one difficult semester.
Instead of simply saying” “I need to get my grades up.”
Figure out what is causing the problem
Ask yourself:
Am I turning assignments in late?
Am I procastinating?
Do I actually understand the material?
Am I distracted while studying?
Am I waiting until the night before a test?
Do I need tutoring?
Am I afraid to ask questions?
Am I spending enough time studying?
Then turn the problem into an action. Instead of: I am going to do better in maths,
Try: Every Tuesday and Thursday, i am going to spend 45 minutes reviewing math and completing practice problems
