What every TEENAGER should know about Career, College, and Money (CCM)
Figuring out your future as a teenager can feel like a lot
People are constantly asking:
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
“What college do you want to attend?”
“What are you going to major on?”
And sometimes, you honestly just don’t know yet.
That’s okay…..
You do not need to have your entire life figured out right now. But you need to start exploring, asking questions, and preparing early!
- START WITH WHAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN
Activities: Career-Interest Assessment Test
Take the career interest assessment tests (you can click the link above).
Some student have discovered that their interests could connect to careers in healthcare, business, technology, engineering, education, social work, entrepreneurship, and many other fields.
The goal is not to say, ” This is exactly what I have to become.”
Instead, it is about helping you understand yourself
- What are you naturally good at?
- What kind of environment do you enjoy working in?
- Do you like helping people ?
- Creating things?
- Solving problems?
- Working with Technology?
Your answers can give you clues about careers worth exploring.
And remember: Your Interests can change as you grow
2. CHOOSE THE CAREER BEFORE YOU CHOOSE THE COLLEGE
A lot of students fall in love with a college first and then try to figure out what to study there
But a better approach is to work backward.
Ask Yourself: What career am I interested in?
Then ask: What degree, certification, or training does that career require?
Then: Which schools actually offer that program?
Just because you like a college does not mean it offers the major you need.
For example, if you want to become a nurse, you need to make sure the school you choose actually has the right nursing pathway
Don’t choose a school only because it looks cool on TikTok.
Do the research. Ask your school counselor. Ask your parents. Ask the right people.
Self advocacy, learn how to speak up for your self
